EDP was first launched in Gujarat in 1970 and sponsored by the Industrial Investment Corporation.

The EDPs are influenced by McClelland’s research in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district. This research involved motivating and training individuals interested in business.

The Entrepreneurship Development Programme ( EDP ) includes the following steps:

  1. Arrangement of Infrastructure. 
  2. Choosing promising entrepreneurs.
  3. Identification of enterprise.
  4. Actual training program.
  5. Selection of training personnel.
  6. Choosing the training method.
  7. Training.
  8. Monitoring and follow-up. 

Objectives of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes ( EDP ) 

The objectives of EDP are as follows

  • The most important objective of EDP is to encourage the development of entrepreneurship in the country.
  • Maximizing the utilization of existing resources.
  • Improving underdeveloped places and improving the economic status of marginalized groups.
  • Creating job opportunities
  • The final objective of the Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP) is expanding the foundation for small and medium-scale industries.
